"Monkey King, a Circus Adventure"

Monkey King is the most beloved character in China, inspiring operas, circuses, TV shows, comics and much more.  Monkey's journey to India as the supernatural bodyguard to Sanzang, a Buddhist priest, was written down in the 16th century, filling 100 chapters, each one more elegant, bizarre and action-packed than the last.  The Clown Conservatory has taken some of the wildest adventures, bringing them to life on stage with acrobatics, juggling, puppetry and music.  In the style of Commedia dell'Arte, which grew up in Venice at the same time as Monkey King stories ruled China, many of the characters will be in masks.

Directed by Clown Conservatory founder Jeff Raz with Felicity Hesed, "Monkey King" features original music by Johannes Mager, dramaturgy by Doyle Ott and performances by advanced students of The Clown Conservatory at San Francisco Circus Center.

Informal Fridays at the Clown Conservatory

EVERY FRIDAY @ 5 PM at the San Francisco Circus Center, downstairs studio

Informal Fridays  is Circus Center's weekly informal performance salon, where clowns and other performers from our circus community come together to work on pieces, share ideas and get feedback on works-in-progress. It's a wonderful tool for developing new material, refining existing acts and exercising harebrained notions! It's also just a great place to connect with fellow performers and clowns. Come be informal! ALL ARE WELCOME.
